Lifesaver Cocktail

Day 66

Lifesaver
2.5 shots out of 5

I was intrigued by the name I have to say.  Lifesaver, sure why not.  Sounds like the candy....although it wasn't my favorite candy, it was a well known candy.  So hey, let's give it a shot.

I gave tonight's cocktail 2.5 shots out of 5 and not because I couldn't stand the taste.  It doesn't have an ingredient in it that makes me gag or not want to drink it.  That wasn't the reason at all.  The problem with this cocktail is that.......it lacks flavor.  It kinda tastes like nothing.  Sure it's a nice green color.  I can sort of taste the pineapple juice in it......but I think the amounts of each kinda cancelled the others out or something.  I would be bummed if I paid $9 for this cocktail and it tasted like this.  Oh well.......can't win them all

Here is the recipe for a Lifesaver:

  • 1 1/2 shots coconut rum
  • 1/2 shot melon liqueur (Midori)
  • 2 shots pineapple juice
In a shaker, add ice, coconut rum, melon liqueur and pineapple juice.  Shake up your ingredients real well.  Pour everything into a tall cocktail glass.

Cheers to the childhood candy Lifesaver and to the fact that those candies had more flavor in them then this cocktail!

Cheers!

Brown Lady

Day 65

Brown Lady
5 shots out of 5

It's a hot day here!  The thermometer said 75 degrees when we were walking the kids home from school today, which is a very pleasant change from the rain and cold weather we've been having! Oh speaking of weather......if you remember when I was telling you about our lightning and how I needed to blog the PB&J Martini before our power possibly went out?  Well not even 15 minutes after I had blogged it, lightning struck right outside the house and our power went out!  Phewph, glad I had made it!

Tonight's cocktail I gave 5 shots out of 5.  I got this recipe from one of my readers, Jessica.  Thank You Jessica for your recipe for Brown Lady!  I am really enjoying this blended cocktail, especially with it being so hot out here.  As you can see from my photo, I can not  decorate a cocktail glass and make it look fancy if my life had depended on it!  I even used one of those cake frosting tips to make the opening smaller........yea I totally failed.  This is definitely a nice refreshing blended cocktail.  I can really taste the kahlua the most, which is nice.

Here is the recipe for Brown Lady:

  • 1 shot rum
  • 1 shot kahlua
  • 1 shot cream of coconut
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • chocolate syrup
In a blender add all of your ingredients.  Blend it up really good so that your ice disappears.  Try   to garnish your glass with chocolate syrup, put some on the bottom, try to twirl some up the side, however you do it is fine.  Then pour your cocktail into your decorated glass and enjoy!

Jessica, here's to you and your Brown Lady cocktail.  It was exactly what I needed on a hot Friday of a long week!  Thank You again!

Liquid Cocaine

Day 64

Liquid Cocaine
2.5 shots out of 5

Tonight's cocktail is dedicated to one of my very best friends, Natalie!  Today is her birthday and she has requested that I make Liquid Cocaine on her birthday.  So here's to you Natty!

I gave tonight's cocktail 2.5 shots out of 5.  Let me explain.  This is definitely a cocktail that you sip, and let it sit on your tongue for a few seconds before swallowing.  If I was to take big sips, I would give it a 2.5.  If I was to sip it the way I believe it should be sipped.....it could rate a little higher......almost to a 3.  This cocktail does call for 100-proof peppermint schnapps, which I don't have, so I just used my regular peppermint schnapps.  The reason they ask for the 100-proof is merely for potency.  I can taste each ingredient in this cocktail as I take my slow sips and let it rest on my tongue.  I think it's a definite "get your buzz on" cocktail if that's what you're after.  My husband said that it sort of tasted like mouthwash, and I agree if you take a big swig of it and don't let it sit in your mouth.  If you are going to try this one, please don't swig it.

Here is the recipe for Liquid Cocaine:

  • 1 shot 151-proof rum
  • 1 shot 100-proof peppermint schnapps (or regular like I used)
  • 1 shot Jägermeister
In your shaker, add ice, rum, peppermint schnapps and Jägermeister.  Stir up your mixture very well so that they all get blended well.  Strain your cocktail into a chilled cocktail glass.

I HUGE cheers to Natalie on her birthday!  I look forward to celebrating with you!  This liquid cocaine is for you!!

Mangana Daiquiri

Day 63

Mangana Daiquiri
5 shots out of 5

Holy yummy daiquiri I created!!  I'm liking this cocktail a whole lot!  Another great creation using my purees!!  I think these two purees are my favorite ones so far.  I think that's so because  raspberry is such a common flavor in cocktails and my peach puree........well....I still haven't figured out how to get it's flavor to pop yet.

I gave tonight's cocktail 5 shots out of 5.  I am absolutely loving this cocktail!  It's got a good blend of the mango puree and the banana puree.  The two DO compliment each other quite well, I must say!  Um, is it summer yet?  I really need to be sitting out in my backyard sipping on this cocktail!  Actually I have quite a line up of cocktails that I have blogged about that I would like to be sitting in my backyard sipping on, like the Blue HawaiianBack Porch BreezeChi Chi and quite a few more I just can't think of right now (perhaps this Mangana Daiquiri is why?).  I hope some of you try this cocktail and tell me what you think of it!

Here's the recipe for the Mangana Daiquiri:

  • 1 1/2 shots coconut rum
  • 1 shot mango puree
  • 1 shot banana puree
In a blender add 1 cup of ice, coconut rum, mango puree and banana puree.  Blend them up well so that the ice is gone.  Pour and enjoy!!

Cheers to summer being that much closer to being here!!  Hope you all had a great day!

Kamikaze

Day 62

Kamikaze
3 shots out of 5

When I started this blog I told my friends to let me know what cocktail they want me to make on their birthdays.  Tonight is Kristin's birthday and she has requested I make a Kamikaze.  A big Happy Birthday to you Kristin!

I gave tonight's cocktail 3 shots out of 5.  The Kamikaze is pretty good, but I think next time I make it I will put in less lime juice.  I put in equal amounts of the 3 main ingredients and it was a bit too limey, so I added in the simple syrup, which helped........but I think if I would have halved the lime juice and still added the simply syrup, I would have liked it better.  My husband says that he likes his with lemon juice instead of lime juice..........so that's always an option next time.

Here is the recipe for a Kamikaze:

  • 1 shot vodka
  • 1 shot Cointreau
  • 1 shot lime juice
  • 1/4 shot simple syrup
In a shaker add ice, vodka, Cointreau, lime juice and simple syrup.  Shake it up really well to get it all mixed and chilled good.  Strain into a short cocktail glass.

Tootie Fruity

Day 61

Tootie Fruity
3 shots out of 5

Here's to........yet another........song in my head!  I decided to try another cocktail from the site that I had found through Pinterest that had given me that great recipe for Liquid Marijuana.  This cocktail they call Tootie Fruity.  I have to say that my Liquid Marijuana didn't look like the one on their site......and neither does this one.  Score another one for Photoshop.  I admit, their photos for Tootie Fruity, as well as the photo of the Barbie Cocktail that's been going around (here's a link to their photo and mine on my blog) do look a lot cooler in color then mine.  I have to say though, if I'm going to make a cocktail at home from someones blog I found online, I want it to look (at least for the most part) like theirs does.  That's why I'm not photoshopping my photos.  I want you to see exactly what I see.  Sure I can make tonight's drink look neon purple if I want to, but that's not what you're going to make at home, so why should I mislead you in thinking that that is what you're going to get?  Anyways.....onto the cocktail.

I gave tonight's cocktail 3 shots out of 5.  It's a good cocktail......but nothing special I must say.  It kinda reminds me of how a screwdriver tastes--It's a good cocktail, sure, but nothing like some of these fruity cocktails I've been making.  Can't say I'd initally order this cocktail and pay $9 for it (sober), but I can say that if I've had a few and don't know what to have next this would be a safe cocktail.  I think that if you added more of one juice then the others to let it be the dominate juice, that might help.

Side Note: Check out "My Shot System" link on the left side bar under the Table Of Contents title!  I have put into words my shot system so that now you all can understand exactly what I'm thinking in my head when I rate these cocktails!!

Here is the recipe for the Tootie Fruity:

  • 1 shot vodka
  • 1/2 shot triple sec
  • 1 shot cranberry juice
  • 1 shot orange juice
  • 1 shot pineapple juice
In a hurricane glass, fill it 3/4 with ice, then add your vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, orange juice and pineapple juice.  Stir it up real well and drink!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here's to not photoshopping my photos and knowing that what you see here is what you get!  Well except for the fact that all of our monitors are calibrated a bit different so we will all probably see tonight's cocktail in a very slightly different shade of yellow.

Cheers!!

Peach Freeze Cocktail

Day 60

Peach Freeze
3.5 shots out of 5

Was feeling creative today and it seems that my peach puree has been neglected lately, so I thought I'd try my hardest to make something with it today.  I have to say that this peach puree is a hard one to work with for me.  It doesn't have as strong of a flavor as some of those other purees, so I feel like I should be adding a LOT of shots of it to my recipes.......which doesn't work when you have one cocktail glass to fit it in.

I gave tonight's cocktail 3.5 shots out of 5.  I wasn't terribly happy that it didn't have a bigger peach taste, but it is what it is.  I figured adding the peach schnapps would help, and it defiantly did.  The cocktail over all isn't horrible (which might be the way it sounds?), it has a good flavor and I am happy drinking it.  I will still try to figure out a way (which maybe adding actual peaches themselves would work) to make a frozen cocktail taste more peachy, but for now, this one will do.

Here is the recipe for a Peach Freeze:

  • 1 1/2 shots rum
  • 1 1/2 shot peach puree
  • 1/2 shot peach schnapps
  • 1/2 shot sweet & sour mix
In a blender add a cup of ice, rum, peach puree, peach schnapps and sweet & sour mix.  Blend it up until the ice is completely gone.  Pour and enjoy!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here's to finding a more peachy frozen cocktail in the future.  And a BIG cheers to my 60th day of my Year Of Cocktails Blog!!  I'm enjoying this a whole lot!  I feel a lot more experienced in the world of cocktails now then I did when I started this blog!

Cheers!
