The Drunken Milkmaid

Day 70

The Drunken Milkmaid
4.5 shots out of 5

First off, I would like to say Happy 70th Day of Cocktails!  Thank You to all of those who have been with me from Day 1 and also to those of you who have found me along the way!  I am having a really fun time making and trying all of these cocktails, as I hope you are having fun reading about them and maybe even trying some of them along with me.  I must say that so far the cocktail recipes that I have received from all of you have been really good ones!  I haven't had a bad recipe from a reader yet!  I love trying the cocktails you all love to drink at home.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4.5 shots out of 5.  I received this recipe from Kera, Thank You Kera!!  The Drunken Milkmaid is a good cocktail that is perfectly mixed (in my opinion of course) by all of its ingredients.  If you notice, the glass has been "designed" a bit different tonight from when I designed the glass for Brown Lady.  Reason being........my husband wanted to design tonight's glass.......but.........I think he used a "bit" too much chocolate?  Anyways, it tastes very yummy with the amount he used and I know it would taste yummy with even less chocolate syrup.  I must say....as I am typing this blog and looking at the chocolate that has now collected more toward the bottom of my glass....I just realized that I was supposed to put whipped cream on top of it!  I even have it out on the counter.  I'm sorry Kera, I wish I would have remembered about it.....instead of being too excited to drink it.

Here is the recipe for The Drunken Milkmaid:

  • 1/2 shot kahlua
  • 1/2 shot creme de cacao
  • 1/2 shot butterscotch schnapps
  • 1/2 shot amaretto
  • 1/2 shot milk
  • chocolate syrup
  • whipped cream (which I totally forgot)
In a shaker add ice, kahlua, creme de cacao, butterscotch schnapps, amaretto and milk.  Shake it up really well so that all of the ingredients get blended well.  Strain it into a martini glass that has been "designed" with chocolate syrup.  Top with whipped cream (still mad that I forgot that) and enjoy!

A big Thank You to Kera for this lovely cocktail!  I have to say that I was always skeptical about chocolate syrup in your cocktail until I tried the Brown Lady and The Drunken Milkmaid.  Not anymore though!  It's a wonderful touch, I must say!

Cheers!!

Brown Lady

Day 65

Brown Lady
5 shots out of 5

It's a hot day here!  The thermometer said 75 degrees when we were walking the kids home from school today, which is a very pleasant change from the rain and cold weather we've been having! Oh speaking of weather......if you remember when I was telling you about our lightning and how I needed to blog the PB&J Martini before our power possibly went out?  Well not even 15 minutes after I had blogged it, lightning struck right outside the house and our power went out!  Phewph, glad I had made it!

Tonight's cocktail I gave 5 shots out of 5.  I got this recipe from one of my readers, Jessica.  Thank You Jessica for your recipe for Brown Lady!  I am really enjoying this blended cocktail, especially with it being so hot out here.  As you can see from my photo, I can not  decorate a cocktail glass and make it look fancy if my life had depended on it!  I even used one of those cake frosting tips to make the opening smaller........yea I totally failed.  This is definitely a nice refreshing blended cocktail.  I can really taste the kahlua the most, which is nice.

Here is the recipe for Brown Lady:

  • 1 shot rum
  • 1 shot kahlua
  • 1 shot cream of coconut
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • chocolate syrup
In a blender add all of your ingredients.  Blend it up really good so that your ice disappears.  Try   to garnish your glass with chocolate syrup, put some on the bottom, try to twirl some up the side, however you do it is fine.  Then pour your cocktail into your decorated glass and enjoy!

Jessica, here's to you and your Brown Lady cocktail.  It was exactly what I needed on a hot Friday of a long week!  Thank You again!

Toasted Almond

Day 33

Toasted Almond
4 shots out of 5

WOW, I have received quite a few YUMMY sounding cocktail recipes from some of my readers, THANK YOU!!  I need to buy a couple more items to make some of them, but I did have all of the ingredients to make tonight's cocktail, the Toasted Almond!  Thank You to Jenny for the request!  You remembered 2 of the 3 ingredients, great job!!

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5, I am enjoying it as I type!  This is a creamy cocktail for those of you who enjoy a more creamier drink.  It actually works perfectly for me tonight, as I had a BIG weekend celebrating a good friends birthday, and let me tell you The Cocktail Lady had a few too many cocktails!  Therefore this cocktail is a nice calm, not to alcoholy tasting drink that works well when your tummy isn't "quite" settled yet, haha.

Again, thank you Jenny for your cocktail idea!  I hope you try it again one day!

Here is the recipe for the Toasted Almond:

  • 1 shot amaretto liqueur
  • 1 shot kahlua
  • 1 shot cream
In a highball glass add ice about 3/4 to the top.  Pour in your amaretto liqueur, kahlua and cream and give it a good stir.  Enjoy!!

Mudslide

Day 17

Mudslide
4 shots out of 5

Now I haven't had one of these in quite a few years.  I had actually forgotten about them until tonight!  The cocktail of the day for day 17 is the Mudslide.  I used to buy the Mudslide mix and add vodka and be done with it.  Now that I know the actual recipe, it's too easy to make.  No need for the Mudslide mix anymore.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.  It's totally a thick and creamy cocktail.  A lot different then the ones I've been making which have been fruitier or not that creamy tasting at all.  If you're in the mood for a creamier cocktail, this is the one!  It's definitely not a drink that I would want to have a few of, but for a one cocktail evening, or to end the evening on a creamy note, I could definitely see myself doing so.

Here is the recipe for the Mudslide:

  • 1 shot Smirnoff vodka
  • 1 shot Kahlua
  • 1 shot Bailey's
  • 1 shot cream

Put ice, vodka, kahlua, bailey's and cream into a shaker.  Shake it up real good to get everything mixed up.  Into a short glass that is almost filled with ice, strain your mudslide from the shaker.  That's it, enjoy!

Black Russian

Day 4

Tonight's Cocktail : Black Russian
3 shots out of 5

In an attempt to find a cocktail that was not the same color as my last 3, I stumbled upon the Black Russian.  This IS a 2-ingredient cocktail, BUT it's not the same 2 that I always go for, so that's a good thing.  This is a cocktail that I've totally heard of, but never knew exactly what was in it.  It's a simple drink really, quick and easy to make.  I do have to admit though.......forgetting how thick in flavor Kahlúa is, I honestly thought because of the amounts of each ingredient you put in that it would have more of a strong alcohol taste to it.  I was pleasantly surprised that it really didn't.

For me, a Black Russian is a cocktail that I could really only drink one of.  Not that it's super strong and I'd be on the floor if I was to make another one, its just not a refreshing enough drink to want more then one for me.  It's a cocktail that leaves its taste in your mouth and that's fine for a little while, but then I feel like I just want to go brush my teeth and tongue to get rid of the flavor.  Not that it's a bad flavor, its just that certain flavors should only linger for so long.

Here's the recipe to make a Black Russian:

  • 3 cracked ice cubes
  • 2 shots of vodka
  • 1 shot of Kahlúa

Basically you take 3 ice cubes, put them in a Ziploc and break them up a little with a mallet or something hard enough to get the job done.  Next you put your ice into a short glass.  Pour in your vodka and Kahlúa and stir. That's it.  Simple enough.

Here is a photo of my ingredients:                               Here is a photo of my end product:

Tomorrow I definitely need to go shopping!  I am finding quite a few cocktails with Blue Curaçao, other flavored liqueurs, Cherry Brandy, bitters and other alcohols and mixes I can't think of right now.  I guess my rum, vodka, orange juice and pineapple juice can only get me so far into my 365 days......unless I want all of my drinks to look oddly the same color.

Cheers!
